Overview
Money Makes The Motorsport World Go 'Round
We all know that.
It's the reason you are here right now; to learn how to land more sponsorship so you can go racing.
The truth is if you've got the money you can get pretty far in this sport, even if you don't have the talent... and the opposite is also true.
You could have all the talent in the world, but without the financial backing, you could end up as an accountant stuck behind a desk all day, instead of being a pro athlete (*nothing against accountants though).
So what do you do if you don't have access to the money? You need what we call Commercial Value.
💎| This is the overarching idea of the whole course.
What Is Commercial Value?
Commercial Value is your ability to make money in the economy.
Either for yourself or other businesses.
This is why we need to understand the business side of motorsport. What we do off the track, in terms of landing sponsorship, is way more important than what we do on the track.
Because without the sponsorship, there is no racing career.
Ultimately, commercial value is your ability to help other businesses grow.
The better you are at doing that, the more commercial value you have. The more commercial value that you have, the more sense it makes for businesses to sponsor you because they know you can help their business grow.
Examples Of Commercial Value In Action
💸| Lewis Hamilton Gets Paid Tens of Millions ($) by Mercedes-Benz because his Influence helps them sell Hundreds of Millions ($).
💸| George Clooney was paid $40 million+ because he helps Nespresso sell way more than $40 million worth of coffee (and coffee machines).
💸| A car mechanic makes $50,000 because his skills and labour help the business owner make Hundreds of Thousands.
💡| Can you see the pattern?
🤯| The more value we offer the business (sponsor), the more money (sponsorship) we can ask from them... and the more money they would be willing to pay us.
That means that we need to first focus on how we can make ourselves more valuable to businesses.
🔑| A key question to ask is, "How can I help (Your Sponsor's Business) get what they want, while at the same time getting what I want?"
For example, if you wanted to make $50,000 a year working as an auto mechanic, you would need to give the business your time, labour and skills in exchange for the $50k. They get what they want (a mechanic who can service cars) and you get the money that you want.
But in our case as motorsport athletes, we can't go get 10 different jobs just to earn the money we need to go racing... it's just not practical.
Instead, we need to help our sponsors grow their businesses.
We help them do this by generating:
🏎| Brand Exposure
🏎| More Traffic
🏎| More Sales
🏎| Fewer Expenses
How Do You Start Making Money In The Economy For Your Sponsor?
💡| First, you build a Personal Brand and get in front of as many people as you can and then you promote our sponsor's products/services to your followers.
This may sound simple, but there is something we need to understand... money is a numbers game.
Out of all the people to who we promote our sponsor's product/service too, only a small % of people will make a purchase.
Money Maths
Let's say that only 10% of the people we promote our sponsor's product to end up buying the product.
If we only had 10 people following us, then we would make just 1 sale.
What if we had 1,000 followers? In this example, we would make 100 sales for our sponsor.
If we had 10,000 followers, we would make 1,000 sales... and so on.
💡| So the bigger our Personal Brand is, the more chance we have of making sales... and the more sales we make, the more commercial value we have.
